The Chamsa ketubah is part of the Nava Shoham Ketubah Collection. The Chamsa or Hand of Miriam, refers to Miriam, the sister of Moses and Aaron. The word ''Hamsa'' is derived from the Hebrew word ''Hamesh,'' meaning ''five.'' The symbol serves as an ancient talismanic way of averting and protecting oneself from the evil eye, or more generally providing a ''protecting hand'' or ''Hand of God.'' The Chamsa appears, often in stylized form, as a hand with three fingers raised, and sometimes with two thumbs arranged symmetrically. The symbol is used in amulets, charms, Jewish jewelry, door entrances, and other places to ward off the evil eye. The golden Peach and blue leaves on each side of the Chamsa are Chinese folk designs -- a symbol of immortality, marriage and springtime. Around the Chamsa, in the circle: White doves -- for PEACE on earth and mind. On the bottom left side: The fluid blue verse coming out of the fiery vase: ''Vast amounts of water cannot extinguish My love (for you) and rivers cannot flood it'' -Song Of Songs Please note: If you purchase this ketubah with personalization, your information will be filled in via computer-print rather than hand-calligraphy. Hand-calligraphy is not available with this ketubah.
